7th International Conference on Education & Educational Psychology, 11-15 October 2016, Rhodes - Greece

In October 11-15, 2016, ICEEPSY brought together scholars, academics and researchers from many different national and cultural backgrounds to Rhodes, Greece to exchange their ideas and present their new research in the fields of education and psychology. ICEEPSY’s thoroughly designed agenda featured very interesting presentations covering such topics as Teacher Education, Counselling Psychology, Second Language Teaching, Special Education, Educational Psychology and many more. The 7th ICEEPSY also featured workshops and keynote speeches given by distinguished and important members of the scientific community. Through the workshops, attendees had the opportunity to be introduced to different topics, like the cognitive assessments for multilingual learners, the way that Dialectical Behavior Therapy applies to children and key strategies to prevent failure in reading and writing.

Apart from the interesting discussions that took place in the technical sessions, networking was further facilitated during the specially organized cocktail party, where participants were accompanied by Greek traditional music and encouraged by Greek professional dancers to join them. The conference’s agenda also included a free day, so that all participants have the chance to explore the beautiful places of Rhodes and the Greek cuisine.

The 2016 conference of the International Conference on Education & Educational Psychology (ICEEPSY) marks its seventh anniversary in Rhodes, Greece on October 11-15.

Congratulations to Organizing Committee for creating this conference and founding Future Academy, which now sponsors multiple annual professional congresses and conferences.

Rhodes, Greece is a beautiful, scenic, and historic island, and a wonderful site for a conference or vacation. Presentations, workshops, and keynote addresses will provide insights and knowledge to practitioners, psychologists, researchers, and teachers. More than 90 countries have been represented in previous ICEEPSY conferences. Also important are the friendships and professional relationships that begin, or are renewed, at ICEEPSY each year.

Kirsti Lonka is Professor of Educational Psychology at University of Helsinki, Finland (2005-). She is a founding member of the Teachers’ Academy of University of Helsinki since 2013 and also the first President (2013-2014). She is the Director of Research Group of Educational Psychology and also the Principal Investigator of the Project “Mind the Gap – between digital natives and educational practices” (Funded by the Mind Program of Academy of Finland (2013-2106), Previous project was PI of WP4 Task 1.1. (Learning Environments) in RYM Indoor Environment project (2011-2015).

Anne Margaret founded ELT well to combine the fields of language teaching and support for learners with SpLDs. Other projects she is working on include the EU-funded teacher training course dysTEFL and the dyslexia-friendly language course English Sounds Fun. She also works with the Learning Development Team at the University of Cumbria, offering 1:1 tuition to learners with SpLDs.

Pavlo Kanellakis has been awarded Fellowship of the British Psychological Society (BPS) for outstanding contribution to the dissemination of psychological knowledge. He is a Lead Assessor for the appointment of the most senior psychologists in Health and Social Care in the UK. Moreover, Pavlo is a Health and Care Professions Council’s Panel Member for the accreditation of the doctoral psychology courses in the UK. He is also accredited as a senior trainer/tutor by the Association for Psychological Therapies (APT) and as a trainer, supervisor and therapist by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP). Pavlo is an Associate Editor of Europe’s Journal of Psychology (EJOP) and the Editor in Chief of the European Journal of Counselling Psychology (EJCoP), as well as the Registrar of the European Association of Counselling Psychology (EACP). Pavlo also provides clinical supervision (also registered with the BPS), specialising in Fitness to Practice issues and cross-national accreditations and registrations. He is a Registered Clinical, Health & Counselling Psychologist who also specialises in helping people with depression, anxiety, addictions and gender identity issues.

Dr. Anne Margaret Smith

Adjunct Professor, Doctor of Arts in Theatre and Drama, works as University Lecturer of Drama Education, at the Department of Teacher Education, University of Helsinki. He is the first theatre pedagogy PhD graduated from the Theatre Academy of Helsinki (2002). Dr Toivanen is the leading and most eminent scientists of the drama education in Finland. His research interests include drama and theatre teaching and learning, creative teaching and learning and teacher education. He has written a number of drama education-related books and articles.

After many years as a teacher in special/inclusive education Ann-Katrin (Ph.D.) continued to work with special/inclusive education from many different perspectives at Gävle and Jönköping universities and now at the University of Gothenburg. She works in programme for teacher training in special/inclusive education mostly with a focus on literacy and also in the programme for early childhood education/preschool.

Mehryar Nooriafshar (Ph.D.) is lecturer at the University of Southern Queensland, Australia, is an active member of the Future Academy. He is in possession of over thirty years of university teaching and academic and industrial research experience. His first formal publication appeared in a British journal in the the mid-eighties. This experience has also a strong relationship with his interests and abilities in linguistics.

Dr. Ritland (Ph.D.) has 42 years of experience in elementary and early childhood education, serving as a special education teacher, Head Start administrator, an elementary school principal and a university Associate Professor. Throughout those 42 years, Dr. Ritland has been a strong advocate for parent/teacher partnerships. Private and public school teachers surveyed in Dr. Ritland’s study identified how they work with families to support the developmental needs of the children in their classrooms. This workshop focuses on the common techniques that are used in collaborating with parents and explores the partnership strategies at the most critical levels that are frequently overlooked.
